Following his performance at the first RTR live event earlier in October 2019, sound artist and experimental musician Matt Atkins joins Rusted Tone Recordings with his latest album, 'A Garden of Solitude'. Matt's interest in sound and sonic textures over traditional approaches to music-making from an early age, the London-based artist creates intricate soundscapes utilising found sounds and objects, tape manipulation, contact microphones, and the sound of interference. In addition to frequent live performances, Matt's recorded output is continuous without expending quality. Recent releases on labels such as TQ N-aut, Falt, Midnight Circles, Hemisphäreの空虚, and his own imprint, Minimal Resource Manipulation, are worth seeking out.

'A Garden of Solitude' delivers seven tracks of sonic explorations, with processed acoustic instruments, physical textures, mangled beats, and carefully placed non-musical sounds. Each track holds a unique character whilst maintaining a great sense of continuity from the opening static of 'Foreland' to the disintegrating tape loop of the long-form 'Secret Transmissions'.

For those regular RTR listeners, Matt Atkins will be a familiar name. He has contributed to an RTR compilation at the beginning of 2019, and has been generous in providing artwork for a number of releases. The artwork for 'A Garden of Solitude' features Matt's own collage imagery, presented in the form of a double-sided three-panel J-card.
