There's a chance this will be the last tape released on RTR, so it had to be a special one. Regular listeners will be familiar with Darren Harper. The Colorado-based musician has released music through Shimmering Moods Records, Rotten Man Editions, Dronarivm, Audio Gourmet, Soft Records, Flaming Pines, Seed Sound, and more. ‘Autumn Loops’ features eight tracks of meandering ambience, loops, tape hiss and field recordings, along with a longer live recorded performance of ‘Horizons’.
Darren has been involved with the label since the very beginning; a full album release is long overdue. For many, Darrens work was the first impression of Rusted Tone Recordings, opening the RTR Sampler Vol. 1 compilation back in 2018 with 'A Thousand Tiny Heartbreaks'. When the decision was made for the label to go on an indefinite hiatus, Darren was asked to provide the closer. Revisited and reworked five years later, 'A Thousand Tiny Heartbreaks' brings us back to the beginning as the final track on this album.
James Osland, having released a couple of albums on RTR over the years and appeared on every sampler, provided artwork for 'Autumn Loops'. The front cover image was taken in Bratislava, Slovakia, and the inner J-card image in Rome, Italy.
2 & 4 are killer! It’s all amazing, these two just speak to me personally. Subtle repetitions washing over you, imperceptible changes chipping away at your consciousness, until you realize you’ve been wrapped in aural silk. Matthew Andrews
