Roland Pyle This is a superb album. I am awed by the subtly with which the elements of each track have been combined. Each track speaks of the relationship we have with our shared environment.

Rob Mells Wood Folk conjures up feelings of ancient woodland fairy tails. Beautiful and dreamlike, yet subtly dark and mysterious. Stunningly crafted piano pieces evolve and intertwine with the gorgeous ambience of the forest field recordings. Marin Lore’s dissolved and reconstructed samples merge with the field/radio recordings to portray both the beauty and bleakness of the North Sea, and its relationship with both human and animal life. 9Worlds is the perfect soundtrack to the beauty of nature. Favorite track: Marin Lore VI.

'9Worlds' is the latest album from Essex-based experimental musician, Paul Blackburn, under the Yggdrasil project. The album blends gentle and organic fields recordings with captured voices, bit-crushed keys and synths. '9Worlds' presents the intersections and oppositions between nature and humanity.

The album is presented on tape with two long-form pieces, 'Wood Folk' and 'Marin Lore', forming sound collages that move in unexpected ways. For the digital presentation, each side has been split into nine movements.

have yet to translate the song titles so the artist's intentions are somewhat of a mystery to me, but the wavering surface noise creates the theme of a dialogue between music & technology before becoming invisible to my ears. this conjures memories of listening to music as a child (long before the sterility of digital media), when i rarely took notice of the hiss & pops of records, 8-tracks, tapes, & am radio because they were a normal, necessary aspect of recorded sound. nice to be back again.
